SWEET YEAST BREAD | |
2 1/2 c. milk 1 pkg. yeast 5 1/4 c. flour 1/2 c. melted butter 2/3 c. sugar 1 egg, well beaten 1 tsp. almond extract Add yeast to 1/2 cup lukewarm milk, then add 1/2 cup flour. Beat thoroughly, cover and let rise 1/2 hour. Add remaining 2 cups milk and 4 1/2 cups flour. Stir, knead, cover and let rise 1 hour. When the bread has risen, work in butter, sugar and almond extract and egg. Let rise again one hour. Then divide dough into thirds, and braid it. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until brown and a hollow sound comes from the bread when knocked on the bottom. |
