ITALIAN THUMBPRINT COOKIES 
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. softened butter
2 egg yolks (reserve whites)
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond

Combine and blend well. 2 reserved egg whites 1 c. chopped walnuts Jam or jelly

Gradually add 2 cups flour to first 6 ingredients at a low speed and blend well. Roll dough into 1 inch balls. Dip balls into slightly beaten egg whites, then chopped walnuts. Put on greased cookie sheet. Make a depression in each ball with thumb. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Fill depression with jam or jelly of your choice. Makes 2 dozen cookies.
