THUMBPRINT COOKIES 
Mix together thoroughly:

1/2 c. soft shortening
1/2 c. soft butter
2 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed

Sift together and stir in:

2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Roll into 1 inch balls, dip in slightly beaten egg whites. Roll in finely chopped nuts (1 1/2 to 2 cups). Place about 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet. Press center with thumb (or finger). Bake about 15 minutes at 375 degrees. Cool. When cold put icing in center of each cookie.

ICING:

Beat 3 ounces cream cheese with 1 teaspoon vanilla. Add powdered sugar (2-3 cups) until icing is right consistency. May use a drop of your favorite color food coloring. Mix well.
