2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda in 1/4 c. hot water
2 c. flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
4 c. cut up apples
1 c. chopped nuts

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and vanilla. Add soda in hot water, then dry ingredients. Add apples and nuts last. Bake in greased and floured 9"x13" pan at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Good just plain or with Cool Whip or cream.
