THE BEST APPLE DUMPLINGS YOU EVER ATE | |
Wash 12 medium apples - peel, core. If desired you can leave them hole or quarter them. To each apple add a tablespoon of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of butter and a dash of cinnamon. Roll pie crust around the apple and place in a 14 x 12 x 2 inch pan. PIE CRUST: 3 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1 1/3 c. shortening (Crisco) Cut the shortening into the flour. 1 egg 5 tbsp. of water 1 tsp. vinegar Add this to the flour and Crisco. Make a log of the dough on your dough board, and slice it into 12 pieces. Roll each piece on a floured dough board until it is big enough to wrap the apple in. Place each dumpling in the baking pan (sprinkle with cinnamon if desired). In a pan on top of the stove measure: 3 cups of water, 1 1/2 cups of sugar and 1 tablespoon of butter, a little food coloring (few drops). Bring to boil. Pour over dumplings, bake in oven at 350 degrees until syrup is thick and apples are done. |
