THE BEST APPLE DUMPLINGS YOU
EVER ATE

Wash 12 medium apples - peel, core. If desired you can leave them hole or quarter them. To each apple add a tablespoon of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of butter and a dash of cinnamon. Roll pie crust around the apple and place in a 14 x 12 x 2 inch pan.

PIE CRUST:

3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 1/3 c. shortening (Crisco)

Cut the shortening into the flour.

1 egg
5 tbsp. of water
1 tsp. vinegar

Add this to the flour and Crisco. Make a log of the dough on your dough board, and slice it into 12 pieces. Roll each piece on a floured dough board until it is big enough to wrap the apple in. Place each dumpling in the baking pan (sprinkle with cinnamon if desired).

In a pan on top of the stove measure: 3 cups of water, 1 1/2 cups of sugar and 1 tablespoon of butter, a little food coloring (few drops). Bring to boil. Pour over dumplings, bake in oven at 350 degrees until syrup is thick and apples are done.
