DEBBIE'S SOFT CHOCOLATE CHIP
COOKIES
 
For variation you may use butterscotch chips, chopped nuts, etc.

1/2 cup shortening, softened
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup evaporated milk (Carnation; reserve rest of can for Glaze)
1 tsp. vanilla
2 3/4 all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 cup chocolate chips

Mix shortening, sugars and eggs. Stir in evaporated milk and vanilla. Add sifted flour, salt and baking soda. Blend in chocolate chips.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets or pour into pan and cut into bars after baking.

Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes. Prepare glaze, if desired.

GLAZE:

2 tbsp. butter
1/2 (1 lb.) box confectioners' sugar (about 2 cups)
1/4 cup evaporated milk

Heat butter till golden brown. Beat in confectioners' sugar. Stir in evaporated milk. Glaze cookies or bars while hot.
