RAISED DOUGHNUTS 
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt
4 eggs
1 qt. milk
1 tsp. lemon
1 tsp. nutmeg
3 yeast cakes

Dissolve 3 cakes yeast in warm water. Cream sugar, shortening and salt; add eggs and mix.

Add lukewarm milk and flavoring and yeast, then flour, enough to make dough stiff. Let raise twice its size. Roll out and cut 1/2" to 1/3" thick. Let raise again until double in size. Put in hot grease with bottom side up, let brown, drain on paper.

GLAZE: Mix powdered sugar and water together to consistency of cream. Add a few drops vanilla. Dip hot doughnuts in glaze and take right out. Drain.
