1/2 c. shortening
1 c. cane syrup
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Let syrup come to a boil, then add shortening. Let boil again then add soda. Stir real good, then remove from heat. Then cook as tea cake. Use the liquid real hot.
