1 pkg. diced dates

Pour 1/2 cup hot water over dates.

1/2 c. shortening, creamed
1 c. sugar
3 beaten eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 c. Wesson oil
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 pkg. chocolate chips
1 can walnuts

Set aside walnuts and chocolate chips. Mix everything else thoroughly until smooth. Pour in 9x12 inch pan. Sprinkle with walnuts and chocolate chips. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
