2 c. sugar 1/2 c. shortening 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. sour milk 1 c. boiling water Beat together above ingredients. Sift together: 1/2 tsp. baking powder 2 tsp. baking soda 3/4 c. cocoa Gradually add dry mixture to liquid mixture, beating until well mixed. Drop by tablespoon on ungreased cookie sheet about 2" apart. Bake at 400 degrees for five minutes. Cool completely. Place filling between two cookies. NOTE: Sour milk is obtained by putting two teaspoons vinegar in milk and let set five minutes. FILLING: 2 1/2 tsp. flour 1/2 c. milk 1 c. butter 1 tsp. vanilla 1/4 tsp. salt 2 lbs. powdered sugar (use enough to make spreadable) Cook flour and milk. When thick, remove from heat and cool. Cream the butter, vanilla, salt and powdered sugar. Add flour mixture. Gobs can be frozen individually in sandwich bags. |
