MOTHER O'S COFFEE BREAD | |
2 c. lukewarm milk 3/4 c. shortening (Crisco) 1 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1 egg, beaten 1 pkg. dry yeast 8-10 cardamom seeds, ground fresh 5-6 c. flour Warm milk to lukewarm. Add other ingredients to milk. Add yeast to 5 cups of flour. Add to other mixture. Mix thoroughly adding more flour as needed. Cover and let rise until double in bulk. Then turn onto a board and knead very little. Shape into twists or rolls - let rise again. Bake at 375 degrees (depending on size) for 15-45 minutes. Frost, if desired, with almond flavoring, confectioners' sugar and water mixed together or sprinkle with regular sugar before baking. |
