OATMEAL COOKIES 
2 c. oatmeal
2 scant c. flour
1 c. dark brown sugar
1 c. butter, softened
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 c. sour milk or buttermilk
1 heavy tsp. salt

FILLING:

1/2 lb. pitted dates (chopped)
1 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. hot water

Cream butter and sugar well. Add flour and oatmeal sifted together. Add other dry ingredients and milk. Let stand in refrigerator until well chilled.

Flour board well - roll thin and cut in rounds. Bake in medium oven until bottoms brown (350-400 degrees).

Boil filling ingredients slowly in double boiler until thick. Spread between two rounds.
