SOFT OATMEAL COOKIES 
2 c. oatmeal
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. lard
2 eggs
1 c. sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda, combined with milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. nuts
3 c. flour

Melt lard and mix with oatmeal. Add brown sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add flour alternately with sour milk to which soda has been added. Add nuts, drop by spoonsful on greased pan and bake.

Cookies were great. I subbed with shortening, omitted nuts and baked on parchment. I could not find an oven temp and bake time, so I did 350°F for 15 minutes. Made 40 medium sized cookies. Not too sweet. May add chocolate chips next time.
