1 c. milk 1/4 c. butter 1/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 egg, beaten 1 cake yeast 3 tbsp. warm milk 3 1/2 - 4 c. flour, all-purpose Scald milk, add butter and stir until melted. Add sugar and salt; cool mixture. Soften yeast in water and add to milk mixture. Add egg and mix well. Add flour and mix until a soft dough. Let rise until double in size, about 1 hour. Punch down and let rise until light, about 30 to 50 minutes. Roll dough into rectangle 1/4 inch thick. Cut into squares and let rise until light. Fry in hot oil until golden on both sides. Drain on paper towels. Dip in glaze. A store bought strawberry glaze may be spread on top if you wish. GLAZE: 1 lb. powdered sugar Dash salt 1 tsp. vanilla Milk to thin Mix in order given; add milk until thin icing forms. |
