BLACK WALNUT POUND CAKE 
2 sticks butter
3 c. sugar
5 eggs, room temperature
3 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. & 2 tbsp. carnation milk
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. black walnuts
1/4 tbsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening

Cream shortening, butter and sugar well (about 20 minutes). Add eggs, one at a time. Blend well. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. (Save 1/2 cup flour to coat nuts.) Add milk, which should be room temperature, alternating with flour, beginning and ending with milk. Add flavoring and nuts; blend well. Put in greased and floured tube pan and bake 1 1/2 hours at 300 degrees.

ICING:

1 box confectioners' sugar
1 stick butter
1 tbsp. black walnut flavoring

Add enough cream to spread.
