OATMEAL DROP COOKIES 
3/4 c. raisins
1/2 c. water
1 c. shortening or butter
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in raisin liquid
2 c. rolled oats
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Cook raisins in water until plump. Drain reserving 1/4 cup liquid (to add soda). Cream shortening, add sugar, eggs. Sift flour, salt, cinnamon and cloves. Dissolve soda in raisin liquid, alternately with flour to cream mixture. Stir in oats, raisins (they can be chopped) and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
