SOUTHERN TURNIPS 
2 lbs. turnips, peeled & cubed
2 med. size new potatoes, unpeeled & cubed
1 bay leaf
4 c. water
1 med. onion, chopped
2 tbsp. bacon drippings
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/8 tsp. red pepper
2 tbsp. minced fresh parsley (opt.)

Combine first 4 ingredients in a Dutch oven. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Drain; remove bay leaf. Saute onion in bacon drippings until tender. Add turnips, potatoes, salt, pepper and red pepper; toss gently. Serve. Eat and enjoy!
