1 c. chopped dates
1 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. butter
2 eggs, well beaten
1 c. chopped nut meats

Add soda to dates; pour boiling water over soda and dates. Let stand for 1 hour. Cream butter; add eggs, dry ingredients, date mixture, and nut meats. Spread in a buttered 9 x 12 inch pan and bake for 40 minutes in a moderate oven. Cut into squares and serve with ice cream or Cool Whip.
