DATE FILLED COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 c. cold water
4 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda in a little hot water
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

FILLING:

1 lb. dates
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. flour
1 c. water

Cook the filling, then add nuts. Drop spoonfuls of dough on cookie sheet. Make small indent and drop in filling. Cover with tiny bit of dough. Bake at 350 degrees until lightly brown.
