ONE-TWO-THREE-FOUR POUND CAKE 
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla extract
3 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time and beat between additions. Add vanilla and then alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk. Put batter in a greased tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees for about 1 1/4 hours until light golden brown. Yield: 1 tube cake.
