BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
2 lb. cucumbers
5 c. sliced onion
1/2 c. salt
3 c. water
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. mustard seed
1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. ground turmeric
3 c. white vinegar
2 cloves garlic

Slice cucumbers and onions. Dissolve salt in water and pour over vegetables. Let stand 2 hours. Combine sugar and rest; boil. Remove garlic. Drain vegetables and add to hot syrup. Heat to boiling. Pour into jars and seal.
