2 c. raisins
2 c. water
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. shortening

Boil 8 minutes. 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. baking powder 3 c. flour

Boil first 4 ingredients together for 8 minutes. Then add the rest of the ingredients in order. Bake in a moderate hot oven between 30 and 40 minutes.
