ALABAMA BISCUITS 
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
4 tbsp. sugar
6 tbsp. shortening
1 pkg. dry yeast
1/4 c. warm water
1 c. buttermilk

Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening. Dissolve yeast in water and add milk. Add to dough. Knead 20 times on floured surface. Roll out 1/4" thick and cut with biscuit cutter. Butter biscuits with softened butter and stack in pairs. Let rise 2 hours in warm place. Bake at 450 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
