WHOOPIE PIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 egg yolks
2 c. flour
5 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

FILLING:

2 egg whites
2 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg yolks. Add milk and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together. Add to milk mixture, mix well. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove to wire rack and cool.

FILLING: Beat egg whites, add powdered sugar, butter, salt and vanilla. Mixture should be thick and smooth. Spread flat side of 1 cake with filling and top with a second cake. Repeat using all of the cakes and filling.
