BREAD PUDDING | |
5 slices white bread 2 tbsp. butter 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. sugar 3 eggs, beaten 3 c. milk, scalded 1/4 tsp. cinnamon Toast bread and spread with butter while hot. Arrange toast in buttered pan 11 x 7 x 1 3/4. Stir salt and all but 2 tablespoons of sugar into the eggs. Add milk and mix well. Pour over toast and let stand 10 minutes. Press toast lightly down into milk so it soaks up most of the milk mixture. Mix cinnamon with remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar and sprinkle over top. Place dish in oven and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. SAUCE OF BREAD PUDDING: 1/2 c. sugar 2 tbsp. cornstarch 1/4 tsp. salt 2 c. boiling water 1/4 c. butter 2 tsp. vanilla Dash of nutmeg Boil sugar, cornstarch, salt and water for 5 minutes and remove form heat. Then add the butter, vanilla and nutmeg. Serve over pudding. |
