MOM'S UNUSUAL APPLE DUMPLINGS | |
2 c. flour 4 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 4 tsp. sugar 4 rounded tbsp. shortening 1 scant c. milk 4 apples, sliced 1/2 c. sugar Butter Cinnamon 1 c. light maple syrup Sift together first four ingredients. Cut in shortening until a "mealy" consistency. Add milk. Stir only until just mixed. Pat out dough on floured surface, (rectangle shape) butter the dough, sprinkle on sugar and cinnamon, putting sliced apples on last. Roll up jelly roll fashion. Slice in 1 inch slices. Place in 9 x 12 inch pan which has butter, sugar and cinnamon lightly on bottom. Pour syrup over. Bake at 425 degrees about 35 minutes (until apples are tender). Serve warm with pitcher of nutmeg- flavored half and half to pour over. |
