OLD FASHIONED STACK CAKE | |
1/2 c. Crisco 1/2 c. sugar 1/3 c. sorghum molasses 1 egg, beaten 3 1/2 c. flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. ginger 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 c. buttermilk Cream together thoroughly the Crisco, sugar and molasses. Add beaten egg and vanilla, blending well. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and ginger. Add alternately with milk, beating smooth each time to make a stiff dough. Roll out on floured surface to thickness of a pie crust; cut in circles size of bottom of pie pan. Place rounds of dough on cookie sheet. Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Split rounds of dough horizontally. Layer dough and spicy homemade applesauce while warm. Let stand several hours before serving. Makes 10 layers. |
