BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 qts. sliced cucumbers
1/2 c. salt
Ice cubes
2 qts. sliced onion and bell peppers
4 c. sugar
1 qt. vinegar (cider)
1 tbsp. celery seeds
2 tbsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. turmeric
1/2 tsp. white pepper

Stir gently salt into thinly sliced cucumbers. Cover with ice cubes for 2-3 hours until cukes are crisp, very cold. Drain; add onions and bell peppers. Combine remaining ingredients and bring to a quick boil; cook for ten minutes. Add cukes; bring to boiling point. Pack at once.
