CHERRY SQUARES 
8 or 9 inch pan, well greased
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1/3 c. butter
1 (16 oz.) can red tart pitted cherries

Sift first three ingredients together. Mix in butter until mixture is fine and crumbly. Put half of this mixture in the pan. Drain cherries well, reserving juice. Spread cherries on the mixture and then cover with remaining half of dry mix. Press down into dish.

Bake in 350 degree oven approximately 45 minutes. Use juice, sugar to taste and some water to make a sauce for the squares. Use 2 tablespoons cornstarch per cup of liquid to thicken sauce.
