CROSS - CUT PICKLES 
4 qts. sliced cucumbers
1 1/2 c. sliced onions
2 lg. garlic cloves
1/2 c. pickling salt
2 trays of ice
4 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seeds
2 tbsp. mustard seeds
3 c. vinegar

Mix together cucumbers, onions, and garlic cloves in large kettle or bowl. Pour pickling salt and 2 trays of ice over them. Let set for 3 hours. Ten minutes before 3 hours are up, mix together sugar and spices with vinegar in saucepan. Bring to a boil. Remove ice and garlic from cucumbers and onions. Rinse off most of salt. Pour vinegar mixture over cucumbers and heat for 5 minutes. Pack in hot jars and process for 5 minutes to seal.
