MACAROON TOP APPLE PIE 
4 c. sliced apples
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon or nutmeg

Peel apples, slice into buttered 9 inch or 10 inch glass pie plate. Mix 1/2 cup sugar and spice and toss with apples. Bake 20 minutes in preheated 375 degree oven while preparing topping.

TOPPING:

1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp butter
1 egg
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. coconut or chopped nuts

Cream soft butter and 1/2 cup sugar. Add fork beaten egg, then sifted dry ingredients, vanilla and coconut or nuts. Spread over hot apples. Bake 30 minutes longer until crust is golden. Serve warm with spoonful of ice cream.
