ARABIC MACAROONS 
7 c. flour, sifted
Over 2 c. oil
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/3 c. water
1/2 c. yansoon (anise seed)
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. walnuts, quartered

SYRUP:

4 c. sugar
2 c. water
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. orange flower water

Crush yansoon fine and add to the water, let stand. Strain the yansoon from the water and combine with the rest of the ingredients (except walnuts) and knead well. Form dough into small patties. Place 3 walnut quarters across the center of the patty. Fold over one edge of dough and overlap the other.

OPTIONAL: You may decorate the pastry by forming a pattern (pinch with tweezers) on top side before baking. Place in baking pan with overlapped edges on the bottom. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
