APPLESAUCE FRUIT CAKE 
3 c. applesauce
1 c. shortening
3 c. white sugar

Boil about 5 minutes and let stand overnight. Dredge 1/2 pound each of dates and raisins. Add 1/4 pound each of nuts, candied cherries, pineapple or fruit cake mix with: 1 tsp. nutmeg 2 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 4 tbsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. cloves

Sift together. Mix all ingredients together and add 1 teaspoon rum flavoring. Bake in pans lined with wax paper in slow oven at 250 degrees for 2 1/2 hours. (I add more fruit.)
