1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2/3 c. buttermilk
1 c. dates
1/2 c. pecans
Grated rind of 1 orange

Beat together sugar, shortening, and eggs. Add flour, soda, buttermilk, dates, pecans, and orange rind. Bake in tube pan at 350 degrees approximately 40 minute or until done. Take juice from one orange and mix with 1/2 cup of sugar and pour over cake when taken from oven.
