1/2 c. shortening 1 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed 2 eggs 1 c. commercial sour cream 1 tbsp. maple flavoring 2 3/4 c. flour 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 1 c. chopped nuts Mix shortening, sugar and eggs thoroughly. Stir in sour cream and maple flavoring. Stir together flour, soda and salt. Blend in. Mix in nuts. Chill dough if soft. Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough about 2-inches apart on greased baking sheet. Bake at 375°F about 10 minutes or until almost no imprint remains when touched lightly. Browned Butter Glaze: 1/4 c. butter 1 c. sifted powdered sugar 1/2 tsp. maple flavoring 1 to 2 tbsp. hot water Melt butter until golden brown. Blend in sugar and maple flavoring. Stir in hot water until icing spreads smoothly. Vanilla can be used instead of maple in both cookies and frosting. Use 1 teaspoon vanilla in cookies. |
