1/2 c. soft shortening
2/3 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. applesauce
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream together shortening and sugar; beat in eggs and applesauce. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to batter and beat well. Add 1 cup nuts if desired. Bake in greased and floured loaf pan about 50 minutes at 350 degrees.
