“HARD TACK CANDY” IS IN:

HARD TACK CANDY 
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
6 drops food coloring
2/3 cup light corn syrup (Karo)
1/2 tsp. oil flavoring (your choice)
confectioners' sugar

Combine all ingredients except confectioners' sugar. Bring to a brisk boil. Cook until it reaches the hard ball stage (250-266°F: on candy thermometer).

Quickly pour into a well of confectioners'. Mix. Cut into small pieces before candy has time to harden.

Note: Oil of peppermint, wintergreen or anise recommended. Use a different color for each flavor.

Cooks Note: Use of a candy thermometer is recommended.

Makes 1 pound.
