CHURCH CANDY (HARD TACK) 
1 3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. Karo syrup (white)
1/2 c. water

Bring to hard crack boil on thermometer. Have a heavy pan or platter well greased. In a tablespoon put 3/4 teaspoon of favorite flavored oil and 1/4 teaspoon coloring. Add this to hard cracked syrup and mix well. Pour onto greased platter, allow to cool 2 minutes.

Take to marble top (lightly coated with powdered sugar) and dump above on it. Let set a few minutes and knead with spatula until cool enough to mix with hands. Roll in long rolls and cut with scissors.
