CORNBREAD 
1 1/2 c. cornmeal
3 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
1/4 c. soft shortening
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
1 egg, well beaten

Sift together dry ingredients. Add shortening; mix well. Add buttermilk and beaten egg. Stir until well blended. Pour into hot greased 10"x2" pan. Bake in preheated oven, 500 degrees, for 20 to 25 minutes.
