CORN DOGS 
1 c. flour
1 c. cornmeal
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
2/3 c. milk
1/2 c. cornmeal
6 hot dogs
Oil for deep frying

Combine flour, 1 cup cornmeal, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Using a pastry blender, cut in shortening until texture of coarse meal. In a small bowl, beat egg and milk. Pour egg mixture into dry ingredients. Stir until barely mixed. Sprinkle 1/2 cup cornmeal onto wax paper. Insert a wooden skewer into each hotdog. Using a spoon, form dough around each hot dog. Roll each in the cornmeal, shape with hands until covered and smooth. Fry in 1 inch of oil at 350 degrees for 3 to 5 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
