4 c. sifted flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 eggs, unbeaten
1 1/2 c. milk
2 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour once and measure. Add baking powder and salt. Sift together 3 times. Cream butter thoroughly. Add sugar gradually and cream together well. Add egg and beat thoroughly. Add flour alternately with milk; a small amount at a time, beating after each addition. Add vanilla. Bake in 3 (10") layer pans at 375 degrees.
