OLD TIME CHOCOLATE PEPPERMINT
CAKE
 
2/3 c. butter
1 2/3 c. sugar
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. plain flour
2/3 c. Hershey's Cocoa
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 1/3 c. water
1/2 c. crushed peppermint candy

Beat butter, eggs, sugar, and vanilla on high speed for 3 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and stir gently until combined. Pour into two 8 inch pans that have been greased and floured.

Bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes.

Cocoa Peppermint Icing:

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. Hershey's Cocoa
3 2/3 c. powdered sugar
6 or 7 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. crushed peppermint candy

Cream first 5 ingredients until smooth; add crushed peppermint and gently mix. Spread between layers and over top of cake.
