YUM YUM COFFEE CAKE 
1/2 c. sugar (original recipe had 1 c.)
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk

TOPPING:

1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. white sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream the sugar and shortening. Add and beat well eggs and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with the buttermilk. Pour half of the batter into a greased 9x13 inch greased pan or baking dish.

Combine the topping ingredients. Sprinkle half of the topping over the batter. Spoon on the remaining batter and sprinkle remaining topping over it. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes.
