1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 beaten egg
1 c. applesauce
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves (or allspice)
1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix first three ingredients. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with applesauce.

In bottom of greased 8 inch pan put 1/4 cup nuts, 2 tablespoons melted butter. Add 1/2 cup brown sugar. Mix all together. Pour batter over that. Bake 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Let stand 5 minutes before taking out.
