2 1/4 c. sugar
1 1/4 c. butter
5 eggs
1 c. sweet milk
3 c. sifted plain flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. lemon juice

Cream sugar and butter. Add 1 egg at a time, beating well after each egg. Sift flour with baking powder and add alternately with the milk. Add flavorings. Butter tube pan and sprinkle lightly with flour. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes. DO NOT open oven while cooking. Check at end of time. Insert toothpick. May need to cook 10 minutes more.
