SCALLOPED APPLES AND CABBAGE 
1 med. apple, sliced thin
3 c. shredded cabbage
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 c. bread crumbs
2 tbsp. butter
1/4 c. water

In a covered casserole, alternate layers of cabbage and apples. Season each layer with salt and sugar. Add water. Put crumbs on top and dot with butter. Bake in moderately hot oven about 40 minutes until apples are tender. Remove cover for final 10 minutes of baking to brown crumbs.
