These are really a kick to make. Mix 2 packages of dry yeast with 1 1/2 cups warm water. Add 2 teaspoons salt, 4 cups flour and mix. Put the dough on some waxed paper and knead until it's smooth.
Here comes the fun - cut off pieces and make them into shapes you like - write your name? Don't make them too thick or they'll be doughy. Try not to make them too thin or they'll be too brittle. Place them on a cookie sheet. Brush the pretzels with a beaten egg and then sprinkle them with coarse salt. Bake at 425 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or until they're golden brown.
