EISENHOWER CAKE 
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
3 eggs
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sour milk
2/3 c. cocoa dissolved in 1/2 c. boiling water

Sift flour, soda, baking powder and salt. Cream shortening. Slowly beat in sugar. Add beaten egg yolks, vanilla and cocoa. Add flour mixture alternately with milk. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into two greased 9 inch layer cake pans. Bake 25 minutes at 375 degrees.

EISENHOWER CAKE ICING:

2 egg whites
1 1/2 c. sugar
5 tbsp. cold water
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar or 2 tsp. light cane syrup
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine all ingredients in top of double boiler except vanilla. Beat until it stands in a peak. Add vanilla. Beat until it is at right consistency to spread.
