SOUR CREAM APPLE SQUARES 
2 c. all purpose flour
2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. nuts, chopped
1 tsp. baking soda
1 to 2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 c. peeled apples, finely chopped

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. In large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar and butter at low speed until crumbly. Stir in nuts. Press 2 3/4 cups of crumb mixture into ungreased 13 x 9 inch pan. To remaining crumb mixture, add baking soda, cinnamon, salt, sour cream, vanilla and egg, blend well. Stir in apples. Spoon apple mixture evenly over crumb mixture in pan. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cut into squares. If desired, serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
