SOUTHERN PECAN PIE 
1 stick butter
3 eggs, beaten slightly
1 c. sugar
1 c. dark Karo syrup
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. pecans
1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell

Melt butter in saucepan until golden brown or just before it starts to burn. Cool. (This is the secret to this pecan pie.) Beat eggs, add sugar, syrup, salt, vanilla and butter. Pour into pie shell over the pecans. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, reduce heat to 325 degrees and continue baking for 35 minutes or until set.
